AUSANGATE 6 Days / 5 Nights

This snow-capped mountain is located south east of the city of Cusco. The Incas considered it to be an Apu, or god, and therefore worshipped it. It is the site of one of the Andean world’s most important pilgrimage, "el Señor de Qoyllor Rity.” Nowadays, Ausangate is still worshipped by the Andean population as the Apu, or spirit, who protects the Andes.

Day 1: Cusco – Tinqui (... km / ... hours approx.)

We leave from Cusco at 9:00 am in private transport on a 6 hour drive to Tinqui, a small town located south-east of Cusco. During the journey, we´ll see many typical villages and panoramas of the Peruvian Andes. We have a box lunch with a view of our destination and finally arrive at Tinqui for dinner. We spend the night there in a hostal and prepare to set off for our journey.

Day 2: Tinqui – Upis (... km / ... hours approx.)

After breakfast, we depart on our first day of hiking to an area near the small village of Upis. There, we will have the opportunity to soak our bodies in the hot springs nearby. From here, we also have a beautiful panoramic view of the face of Ausangate (6,372 m).

Day 3: Upis – Ausangatecocha (... km / ... hours approx.)

We start walking around 8:30 am until we arrive to the first pass (5,000 m). We have lunch somewhere along the way amongst flocks of llamas and alpacas. We then continue on to reach Ausangatecocha (lake Ausangate) where we set up our campsite.

Day 4: Ausangatecocha – Jampa (... km / ... hours approx.)

This is considered to be the most difficult day of the journey. We climb up to Palomani pass, at an altitude of 5,200 meters above sea level. From here, we can see many exquisit snow-capped mountains in a breathtaking panorama. Our campsite for the night will be near Jampa.

Day 5: Jampa – Pacchanta (... km / ... hours approx.)

We leave the campsite as early as possible to visit the ice caves formed by glaciers. We then depart on our trek, reaching Pacchanta for our last campsite where you can relax in the hot springs for the rest of the day. (Pachamanca de Despedida)

Day 6: Pacchanta – Cusco (... km / ... hours approx.)

After breakfast, we begin our walk back to Tinqui, where we have lunch and catch the bus back to Cusco, arriving in the late afternoon.
